ADDITIONAL DIGITAL CHANNELS FOR SPENCER GULF AND BROKEN HILL
Southern Cross Media is currently working closely with the ACMA (Australian Communication and Media Authority) in regards to channel assignments for the new Digital channels in the Spencer Gulf and Broken Hill markets.
With the successful launch of Channel 9 in October 2010 and then Channel Eleven in January 2011, Southern Cross Media’s Group General Manager for Victoria/South Australia Rick Lenarcic said that the Group’s Engineering team is currently busy installing over 20 additional digital transmitters and upgrading sites to facilitate the digital signal requirements.
"With the Analogue switch off happening in Southern Australia and the current demand of Engineering services across the country we are endeavouring to provide the full suite of digital television services by the end of 2011" said Mr Lenarcic.

NEW DIGITAL CHANNELS FOR SPENCER GULF AND
BROKEN HILL
Spencer Gulf and Broken Hill television viewers will receive a comprehensive suite of new digital TV channels in 2011.
Southern Cross Media’s Victoria/South Australian Group General Manager Rick Lenarcic said that Southern Cross Media was pleased to be able to introduce the new digital television channels as part of a joint Government and broadcaster initiative announced earlier this week by Communications Minister Senator Stephen Conroy.
“We’ve successfully provided Channel 7 and 10 programming for many years and recently
introduced Channel 9 to the market in the digital format. The roll out of these new digital channels is another step towards providing our loyal viewers with access to the same programs as the capital cities enjoy” said Mr Lenarcic.
The new channels being introduced by Southern Cross include GO! and GEM from the Nine
network, 7 Two and 7 Mate from the Seven Network and One from Ten. Negotiations are
continuing with the Ten Network in relation to the supply of their recently announced Channel 11.
“Our company has worked closely with the Gillard Government to improve access to television in South Australia and Broken Hill and we are very excited to be able to take this next step in the roll out with the funding assistance provided by the Government,” he added.
“With only weeks until the regional SA digital switch over on 15 December 2010, we are
encouraging anyone who has not yet converted to digital TV to avoid the rush and purchase a set top box or digital TV now.
With analogue TV switching off we will have the transmission capacity to start these new digital channels in the first half of next year. We expect to have the first of them on air early in the new year and hopefully all will be available by the end of June 2011” said Mr Lenarcic.
Mr Lenarcic emphasised that to receive the new channels as well as the recently launched
Channel 9 signal, viewers in the region would need a digital set top box for their existing
televisions, or a television with a built-in digital tuner. He explained that Digital TV can be accessed through a conventional TV antenna and recommended viewers check that their antenna and cabling was in good condition and pointing in the right direction to ensure good digital reception.
The Federal Government’s Digital Ready website (www.digitalready.gov.au) has more information on digital switchover and optimising reception of digital services.
Digital TVs and set top boxes for Spencer Gulf and Broken Hill viewers wishing to receive the new digital channels are readily available through a range of retail outlets in the region.

21 September, 2010
Spencer Gulf and Broken Hill television viewers will soon receive Channel Nine in a historic first for the region.
The new Channel Nine service will commence on Sunday 31 October 2010 as a new “digital only” channel.
Southern Cross Media’s Victoria/South Australian Group General Manager Rick Lenarcic said that Southern Cross Media was pleased to be able to add Channel Nine to its existing digital channel line-up.
“We’ve successfully provided Channel 7 and 10 programming to viewers and advertisers in these regions for some years now, but we are aware that our viewers are also keen to see Channel 9” said Mr Lenarcic.
“While we’ve previously had an agreement with the Nine Network to broadcast its coverage of the cricket, we are delighted that we can now bring Nine’s main channel to Spencer Gulf and Broken Hill. It’s an exciting development in the TV history of the region,” he added.
“With the official digital switch over date for the region being 15 December 2010, we are keen to provide the Channel 9 signal as soon as possible, especially with the highly anticipated Ashes Tour starting in November.”
“We are also working towards making additional digital multi-channels available after the digital switchover date, when we will have more spectrum capacity. When we are ready to announce the start dates for additional digital multi-channels for Spencer Gulf and Broken Hill, you’ll hear about it first on Southern Cross News”.
Mr Lenarcic emphasised that to view Channel 9 in Spencer Gulf and Broken Hill, viewers in the region would need a digital set top box for their existing televisions, or a television with a built-in digital tuner. Channel Nine will be on Digital channel 8.
He also recommended that viewers in the region visit the Federal Government’s Digital Ready website (www.digitalready.gov.au) for more information on digital switchover and that people consider purchasing a Freeview EPG compatible TV or Set Top Box to get the full benefit of the new services that will be coming in the future.
“Digital set top boxes currently retail for less than $100 if people are not in the market to upgrade their television, and will provide the necessary technical requirements for Spencer Gulf and Broken Hill viewers to receive and enjoy Channel 9” said Mr Lenarcic.
Set top boxes for Spencer Gulf and Broken viewers wishing to receive Channel 9 from 31 October are currently available through a range of retail outlets in the region.
